Entry into the WTO of Tajikistan discussed in Dushanbe
Dushanbe, August 29. (NIAT "Khovar", P.Mahmadbekova).On August 28, with the participation of government bodies and the private sector held a roundtable in the Commerce Chamber (CCI) RT on the topic: "The entry of Tajikistan in the World Trade Organization".
As NIAT "Khovar" was informed by the CCI RT, a sales representative of the Russian Federation Sergey Baliev RT, Deputy Regional Director for Tajikistan, USAID Regional Trade Liberalization and Customs reform, a senior consultant on WTO issues Evan H Yekich, Head of cooperation with the Office of the WTO on foreign cooperation MEDT RT Anvar Ibrohimov and others have been participated at a round table.
The Subject linked Tajikistan to the WTO sounds more and more, as one of the current priorities of the national foreign policy - said during the event, Vice-Chairman of CCI RT Larissa Kisliakova. - The Government of Tajikistan expressed its readiness to lead the Republic of Tajikistan in accordance with WTO rules. The issues which discussed today, are reduced to - on what conditions and what measures must be taken before entering another.
Of course, this hot topic that deserves the attention of the private sector, so the CCI RT aims to enhance the participation of the private sector of RT on the subject - said L. Kisliakova.
In the meantime, the liberalization of trade in goods and services as a result of accession to the WTO will lead to increased competition that will be reflected in the first place to our producers. In the best situation would be with companies working on international standards - she said.
Negotiations are ongoing - they are a more advanced stage. According to Anvar Ibrahimov, the working group, representatives of those States that are interested in doing business with Tajikistan, in particular - U.S., Canada, European Union, Japan, Australia and China.
At the first meeting of the group was presented a memorandum on foreign trade regime in Tajikistan. As part of the 6th meeting of the working group on WTO Accession, scheduled series of bilateral and multilateral meetings with representatives of 13 WTO member states.
The main thing - we have already prepared the legal framework, which should be transparent. This is a big plus, explicit approach to WTO requirements, and will attract large investments - said Ibrahimov.
Yovan N. Yekich suggested that for the final phase of the project in which the republic has already entered, you need drastic reforms in the economy. At present, attempts are made to bring them into conformity with WTO rules.
Becoming a member of the WTO Tajikistan will be able to continue their influence in shaping the rules of international trade relations in accordance with their national interests.
