WB will complete its expertise on Rogun HPP on 2013

Dushanbe, July 13. (NIAT “Khovar”).-

“The construction of hydropower plant (HPP) “Rogun” will become the main factor of economic development of Tajikistan. At the request of Tajikistan Government to the World Bank, about conducting of evaluation study with a goal to assess an expediency of this HPP in accordance with international standards, and mainly the technical-economic evaluation and evaluation of ecological and social influene”,- has noted the Deputy Director of the Center of Strategic Research under the President of Tajikistan Saifullo Safarov during the press-conference, on July 12.

On Tajikistan’s request WB has allocated funding for two evaluation studies. The first study on project is the reducing energy losses in the Republic of Tajikistan (PREL) have been completed on June, 2012. The additional funding, the continuation funding of evaluation study on project HPP “Rogun” is foreseen from the measures of additional funding of PREL, recently has been endorsed by the WB Council of Directors.

It should be noted that the final expertise on completion of Rogun can be expected on February 2013. (Translated by M.Ismatova)
