E.Rahmon has met with delegation of the U.S. Congress
Dushanbe, July 6. (NIAT "Khovar").-On July 5, the President of the country Emomali Rahmon received the delegation of members of the United States Congress headed by the member of House of Representatives Dan Burton.
A constructive talk was held on the ways of enhancement of political, economic, trade, investment, military and security cooperation between Tajikistan and the USA.
Dan Burton called Tajikistan “very important country in Central Asia” and evaluated its role in ensuring regional security as “remarkable”. He also evaluated the visit of a high-level Congress delegation, which has taken place for the first time, “as the evidence of deep interest of the U.S. in the development of cooperation with Tajikistan” and stated that “further such ties and mutually beneficial cooperation will be enhanced”.
It was stressed that the United States will further continue its technical assistance to military and security structures, particularly to border troops and bodies for fight against illegal drug trafficking, as well as will increase this assistance after 2014 for strengthening protection of state borders with Afghanistan after the withdrawal of International Security Assistance Forces.
The members of the U.S. Congress also stated that their country supports the accession of Tajikistan to the World Trade Organization.
An interesting talk was also held regarding the enhancement of regional cooperation in Central Asia, elimination of artificial barriers and development of ties with the countries of South Asia through the revival of the Silk Road, the Presidential press-service has reported.
