World Population Day

Dushanbe, July 11. (NIAT Khovar)
On July 12, 2012, Press conference in honor of World Population Day will be held at the Representation of UNFPA in the Republic of Tajikistan.
In 1989, the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) recommended 11 July as World Population Day, according to the Representation of UNFPA in the Republic of Tajikistan.
This count starts from July 11, 1987, when the population of the world has exceeded 5 billion. World Population Day has an aim to draw attention for urgent and important of population issues, particularly in the context of plans and programs for overall development and the need to find solutions to these issues.
The population of the world from 1960 to 1999, increased more than doubled, passing to the October 1999 mark of 6 billion people.
In 2011, the population of the Earth was 7 billion people and will continue growing rapidly. The UN estimates that in 2050 the world population will be between 7.9 billion to 10.9 billion, moreover, the most probable forecast is 9.3 billion people. It depends, in certain extent on the effectiveness of family planning programs.

In 2012, the main theme of World Population Day is "Universal access to reproductive health services."
