DCA OF RТ: “AFGHANISTAN REMAINS MONOPOLIST IN OPIATES PRODUCTION”
Dushanbe, January, 13th. (Anvarbek Siddikov, Olga Saprykina, the NIAT "Khovar"). — "Afghanistan produced 80% of opiates in the world and remains monopolist in this sphere", the director of the Drug Control Agency (DCA) under the President of Republic of Tajikistan Rustam Nazarov declared the day before, on January, 12th, at the final press conference in Dushanbe. As a result of 46 joint operations held by DCA conjointly with corresponding bodies of Afghanistan, 2 tons of drugs of 886 kg have been withdrawn from illegal circulation. Besides it during the joint operations held by the Afghani special services 104,8 hectares of opium poppy crops and 8 laboratories on heroin production have been destroyed on the territory of this state. Meanwhile, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and anti drug structures of Afghanistan, in 2008 7,7 thousand tons of opium-raw were produced in this country, that is on 500 tons less in comparison with data for 2007.
