TAJIKISTAN BECAME THE NEW UNIFEM DONOR
Dushanbe, January, 19th. (Farangis Rakhimova, Olga Saprykina, the NIAT "Khovar"). — The United Nations Development Fund for women (UNIFEM) informed about its significant increase in the number of donors. The number of governments contributing to UNIFEM's core resources rose from 49 in 2007 to 80 in 2008, an increase of 63 percent. The amount of funding to core resources also rose from just under US$44 million in 2007 to US$51 million in 2008, an increase of 16 percent. Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan are among new UNIFEM donors. The United Nations Development Fund for women (UNIFEM) has been based in 1976. It renders financial and technical support to the programs directed on improvement of women position and maintenance of gender equality all over the world.
