THE PRESIDENT OF TAJIKISTAN ACCEPTED THE UN SPECIAL ENVOY IN AFGHANISTAN
Dushanbe, January, 26th. (Olga Saprykina, the NIAT "Khovar"). — On January, 24th the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon accepted UN special envoy in Afghanistan Kai Eide. At the meeting questions of interaction of Tajikistan with the United Nations Organization, and also other interested organizations and states in questions of rendering assistance to restoration of peaceful life in Afghanistan were discussed. "The Afghani problem can be resolved only taking into account common regional factors and that is why the assistance rendered to Afghanistan should be also in the form of assistance to Central Asia as a whole", noted the Head of the state Emomali Rahmon. In course of the meeting opportunities of Tajikistan especially in the sphere of economy, transport and techniques were mentioned. In this regard positive experience of peace building of Tajikistan for Afghanistan was highly appreciated. "In case of successful and effective realization of its energy, transport, communication and industrial projects in the nearest future Tajikistan can provide Afghanistan with electric power and partly industrial output including building materials", — the President of Tajikistan declared. In his turn, Kai Eide expressed confidence that Tajikistan infrastructural projects of regional significance will be carefully studied by the United Nations and optimal of them will be realized. The head of the state noticed that Tajikistan has now opportunity to assist Afghanistan in training of personnel for various branches including for military branch and for law enforcement bodies. Interlocutors discussed present military-political situation in Afghanistan, ways of strength fight against manufacture and drug trafficking, and also other questions representing mutual interest. About it the NIAT "Khovar" was informed in the press-service of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.
