PRESIDENT OF TAJIKISTAN RECEIVES NEW ENVOY OF VATICAN
Dushanbe, April 22. (NIAT "Khovar"). — Today President Emomali Rahmon received the credentials of the new Apostolic Nuncio (Envoy) of Vatican in Tajikistan Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía. During the substantial conversation that followed the ceremony, Head of state Emomali Rahmon and Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía had a productive exchange of opinions concerning the cooperation between Tajikistan and Vatican. The interlocutors mainly touched upon the issues of the dialogue between various religions and civilizations of the world, as well as human rights and freedoms. They stressed that the ideals of peace and justice, revered by representatives of all religions and cultures, serve as a key factor in strengthening friendship and cooperation between various peoples, as well their mutual respect and tolerance. It was also noted that religious convictions and cooperation between the world's religions and faiths should be directed, first of all, towards combating such threats to humankind, as terrorism, extremism and illicit circulation of drugs, as well rendering help to those impaired and impoverished. It was mentioned with satisfaction that representatives of all world religions may freely live and work in Tajikistan, including the parishioners of the three Roman-Catholic churches operating in the republic, who observe their faith and rites without obstacles.
