ARTIST AGAINST TERRORISM
Dushanbe, May 13. (NIAT "Khovar", Takhmina Ghoibnazarova). — An exhibition of the pictures by a young Tajik artist Murodjon Sharipov will open at the premises of the Swiss Office for Cooperation in Tajikistan on May 19th. The artist himself thinks the main event of the coming show will his installation made from grenades. The composition consists of 300 combat grenades woven into curtain and placed on floor in such an order as to perform the décor of the location. In a corner, there is a vintage radio receiver which produces, through wheezes, war-time melodies. The meaning of the installation lies in the frightening chaos of the displayed combat ammunition. In another corner, a ripe pomegranate is hanging. "One should rather choose a pomegranate than a grenade — that is what the whole installation is about", comments the author. "I meant to underscore the idea that terrorism is vice. In our endangered time it is highly important to express one's protest against war and violence. I made it to the best of my ability", M. Sharipov adds. The exhibition will last till June 17th.
