PRESIDENT E. RAHMON RECEIEVES CREDENTIALS OF RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR
Dushanbe, May 14. (NIAT "Khovar). — Today President Emomali Rahmon received the credentials of the newly-appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russian Federation to Tajikistan Yuri Popov. During the talk that was held after the ceremony the Head of state and Yuri Popov discussed current issues and prospects of Tajik-Russian cooperation. "On the whole, we are content with the development of multifaceted relations between Tajikistan and Russia, because lots of work have been done over the past years", stated President Emomali Rahmon in the beginning of the conversation. In the course of their frank talk, the Head of state and the Russian diplomat, first of all, expressed satisfaction with the level and contents of interaction between military and law-enforcement structures of their countries, as well as cooperation in the fields of economy and commerce, science, education and culture. Citing the cooperation in the sphere of energy as one of strategic directions of Tajik-Russian relations, the interlocutors stressed that the experience and ties gained during the joint construction of the Sangtuda-1 HPS should be used while building other power stations. President Emomali Rahmon expressed contentedness with the state of implementing some documents on bilateral cooperation and stressed that accelerating the start of the construction of three medium-capacity power stations, as well as extraction and processing of oil, gas and uranium would lead to further strengthening and developing economic cooperation between the two countries. At the meeting, a fruitful talk took place concerning the current situation in the Central Asian region and other topics of mutual interest.
