PRESIDENT RAHMON SIGNS DECREE ON MEASURES TO SECURE ENERGY SAVING

             Dushanbe, April 27. (NIAT "Khovar"). — President Emomali Rahmon signed the Decree ‘On Additional Measures to Secure Economical Energy Consumption and Energy Saving'.              According to the document, all premises of central and local bodies of state power, organizations, institutions and enterprises, irrespective of the form of ownership, must complete the transition to the use o modern energy saving lamps by the end of 2009. The transition itself should start on May 1, 2009.             Heads of the relevant ministries and agencies, regions, towns and districts are charged with providing 241 thousand low-income families with energy saving lamps by October, 2009.The Decree provides for stage-by-stage limiting the imports of incandescent light bulbs with concurrent taking measures for stimulating the imports of modern energy-saving lamps.              Relevant agencies of the country are charged with stirring up the explanatory work on the benefits and significance of using energy-saving appliances.             According to the Presidential Decree, to organize domestic manufacturing of such appliances, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, the Ministry of Energy and Industry, and the State Committee for Investments and Management of State property should, on the account of domestic and foreign investments, ensure the construction of two enterprises for manufacturing energy-saving lamps during the period of 2009-2011.              The Government of Tajikistan is charged to establish a competent commission with the aim of developing a program of rational and effective use of energy resources for the future seven years.
